Special Education
The Alameda County Office of Education is committed to providing special education students at ACOE-operated schools with appropriate educational opportunities that will enable students to be an independent contributing member of society. The goal is to ensure that students with disabilities enrolled in ACOE Court and Community schools are consistently identified, evaluated, and provided with appropriate educational services and placements.

Parents Rights
The California Department of Education has information specifically about the legal rights of parents to participate in their children's education. For more information, click here.
Resource Specialist Program
The Resource Specialist Program provides special education services for any identified special education students who can participate in the general education program for a majority of their school day. It provides an instructional setting that supports both the student and the general education teacher and facilitates the student's participation in general education.
Special Day Classes (SDC)
Special Day Classes are designed to provide appropriate services for students who participate in Special Education for a majority of their day. Maximum participation with their non-disabled peers is encouraged and facilitated as appropriate.
Infant and Family Support Program
A free early intervention program for children birth through 2 years old with disabilities and their families. For more information click here.
Designated Instruction and Services (DIS)
Many students require related services in one or more areas in order to benefit from their special education programs. These services may include:
- Language and Speech Development and Remediation
- Occupational Therapy
- Physical Therapy
- Career preparation/vocational
- Psychological counseling and guidance
- Health, nursing service
- Hearing service
- Vision service
