The Alameda County Office of Education Student Programs and Services (SPAS) Division operates year-round alternative educational programs for a diverse student population at sites throughout the county. SPAS works in collaboration with a variety of agencies to provide support and services for youth and their families. SPAS serves students who are under the protection or authority of the juvenile court system, have special needs related to independent study, are pregnant or parenting, are in substance abuse recovery, and who have been expelled or suspended from traditional local school districts, often because of behavior or attendance problems. In addition to alternative education programs, SPAS provides services in the areas of Foster Youth Services, McKinney-Vento Homeless Education, early intervention infant and family support programs, and after-school programming.
On these pages you will find information on the varied programs offered by the Student Programs and Services Division. We hope you enjoy finding out about SPAS and encourage you to contact us if you have any questions.
