“It’s exciting to have someone with Tom’s broad breath of experience in education policy and direct classroom experience as our leader in public education” said Sheila Jordan, Superintendent of Alameda County Schools. “We are delighted that he will be sharing his vision and plans to lead the California Department of Education (CDE). We look forward to an honest dialogue about how we, as educators, can focus on deepening our work on equity and achievement for all students.”
Tom Torlakson will address key issues in state education including key priorities outlined by the Alameda County Superintendents' Council such as funding for quality education for all students, the accountability required for student achievement and closing the achievement gap, and how to formulate strategic investments to prepare all students to thrive in an unpredictable world. Educators and community are welcome to submit questions for Tom to address during the Q&A portion of the evening.
