Message from Superintendent Jordan Regarding Pertussis (whooping cough) in Alameda County:
Greetings All,
In coordination with Dr. Robert Benjamin at the Alameda County Health Department, I request your assistance to distribute the attached letters in English and Spanish to teachers and parents concerning the pertussis (whopping cough) outbreak. It outlines proactive measures parents and caretakers should take to ensure that children are not infected.
As you are probably aware, California is experiencing a sharp increase in the number of whooping cough cases. As we approach the new school year, it is important for school communities to have accurate information about the risks of infection to ensure that children and adults are properly immunized. Please alert teachers and parents to help distribute the information and take precautions to protect their own health.
The Alameda County Office of Education will continue to serve as liaison between districts and the county health department and will keep you apprised of whooping cough health updates as well as resources for free vaccination clinics. Please feel free to call with any questions or concerns.
Thanks for your assistance,
Sheila.
