The Teacher Internship Program of Alameda County (TIPAC) is an alternative credentialing program for multiple subject and single subject credential candidates. TIPAC is a partnership of Alameda County Office of Education and several local Universities with the Alameda, Albany, Berkeley, Castro Valley, Dublin, Emery, Hayward, Livermore, Newark, Piedmont, Pleasanton, San Leandro, San Lorenzo, & Sunol Glen Unified School Districts.

The Partnership

A team of people working toward the goals of supporting interns to:

  • Experience success as a classroom teacher
  • Gain Teacher Certification

Responsibility and Guidelines

The Intern

  • Has a full work load
  • Must verify completion of a minimum of 120 hours of pre-service by the IHE
  • Has been accepted into the Multiple-Subject, Education Specialist, or Single-Subject Credential Program and has met the additional requirements for internship
  • Enrolls in the student teaching courses as well as other required courses at CCTC-approved IHE
  • Must meet the field experience requirements and satisfy the district's expectations for beginning teachers
  • Applies for internship credential through the IHE Credentials Office
  • Benefits from resources provided through TIPAC (reimbursement of Preliminary Credential fee, opportunity to visit the classrooms of exemplary teachers, provision of support teacher, advisement, resources, professional development)
  • Logs on and participates in the online forum

The Support Provider

  • Mentors and provides guidance in the areas of engaging and supporting students in learning, instructional planning and classroom management
  • Observes interns at least three times during each year of the internship
  • Provides coaching based on the California Standards for the Teaching Profession Works with intern to fufill the district's expectations for beginning teachers
  • Supports the intern in a relationship free of evaluation a minimum of one hour per week
  • Attends training sessions
  • Receives a stipend from TIPAC grant 

Selection of Support Provider

The Intern Support Provider is approved by the site Administrator and:

  • Has at least three years of successful teaching experience
  • Is identified as an exemplary teacher
  • Has a current assignment at the intern's school or at a school nearby
  • Has current experience at the intern's grade level
  • Will log on and participate in the "TIPAC Forum" 

Site Administrator

  • Conferences with the intern and IHE supervisor at the end of each academic semester
  • Supports the Intern Program

IHE Supervisor

  • Works with Intern Support Provider to provide intern with two perspectives on his/her performance
  • Observes intern according to IHE standards
  • Conferences with the intern and Site Administrator at the end of each academic semester

Application Process

  • Obtain candidacy in IHE teacher preparation program
  • Apply for intership credential through IHE Credentials office
  • Register with ACOE as an intern (TIPAC)
